The MS Concept
Kazoo's favorite game is Left 4 Dead 2, a zombie FPS where the player teams up with 3 other survivors. Teamwork is key to surviving, since zombies have many ways of stopping you. After the release of Back 4 Blood, Kazoo was conflicted. She had another l4d style game, but it didn't meet her standards. As an aspiring game developer, Kazoo wanted to make something that L4D fans were asking for. Kazoo also wanted it to be unique, and decided it needed a futuristic spin. She decided she wanted to fuse L4D with another favorite: Titanfall. No programming was done for this project, however, this game was cancelled.
Why did she trash a good idea?
In order to make a proper L4D style game, Kazoo needed it to be 3D. 3D art has a lot of steps, Kazoo isn't extremely knowledgable, but will try to list them for you:
- Make concept art
- Make the 3D model
- Rig the model
- Unwrap the model's UVs
- Make textures for the model
- Make animations if needed
- Export
Kazoo does not have any software to texture a model, and has used Aseprite for textures in the past. This worked for small projects, but this workflow would not work for The MS Concept. Kazoo would have to make hundreds of models for this game. Kazoo realized the scale of this project after modelling and rigging the first mech suit.
3D model for the Grunt mech.
Kazoo was quite happy with how this model turned out. However, this model took a long time to make, and she still has 4 more steps until grunt.gtif was actually finished.
